Weld width and height:

Uniform width and thickness throughout the entire length of each weld.

Level 4

Bead is uniform width all along the length of each welld. Has a smooth appearance
Level 3

Bead maintains width and length. Shows some small blemishes along the weld
Level 2

Not a uniform thickness through out the weld. Thickness goes to extremes
Level 1

Weld is cut off in places, not uniform along the weld. Shows bare spots
Total Points
Appearance

Smooth with uniform dense ripples, doesn’t show the bead traveling to fast or slow

Level 4

Weld shows a constant speed and uniformity the entire length
Level 3

Weld shows a constant speed with some blemishes that are minimal
Level 2

Weld shows definite areas of speeding up and slowing down. Ripples tend to be coarse
Level 1

Weld has been done to fast or to slow. Weld is not complete
Total Points
Face of bead:

Convex, free of voids and high spots, shows uniformity throughout the bead

Level 4

Has a nice rounded look. Is not overly high, or low. Bead covers a wide area of each weld.
Level 3

Bead is well rounded, mostly uniform over the length of the weld. Shows some high spots and low spots
Level 2

Bead shows many high and low area's. Total lack of uniformity throughout the weld
Level 1

Weld does not blend into one single bead.
Total Points
Edge of bead

Good fusion, no overlapping or undercutting

Level 4

Sides and edges are smooth blending into each weld. Undercutting is kept to a minimum, Weld does not float on surface
Level 3

Moderately smooth blending. Undercutting and float are present. Stength of the weld is still strong
Level 2

Float and undercut are very apartent. Weld lacks strength and flow
Level 1

Metal is burned through. Weld has no connection to metal,
Total Points
Beginning and ending full size

Crater well filled

Level 4

End of each weld is complete, the line doesn't taper off
Level 3

Weld ending is full but shows some tapering and a craterpresent
Level 2

Crater distinctly present at the end of the bead.
Level 1

Metal is burned through at the end
Total Points

Welding surface free of spatter

Level 4

Spatter is kept to a minuimum.
Level 3

Some spatter is present but not displeasing
Level 2

Spatter is in large amounts
Level 1

Spatter takes away from the integrity of the weld.
Total Points
Penetration

Complete without burn through

Level 4

Weld penetrates deep into the metal and adds strength and fusion to the edges and depth.
Level 3

Weld pentetrates deep but does not re surface through the bottom of a jointed welds
Level 2

Weld is uneven in depth, lacks uniformity along weld length.
