Nutrition Project Rubric Nutrition Project Rubric Students will complete a project related to health and wellness, including but not limited to; nutrition, healthier eating, food industry, commercial farming practices, government oversight, or other topics approved by the teacher. The project format will also be variable and subject to approval. Suggested formats: research papers, personal food journals, videos, presentations, book reviews. Topic Choice/Thesis	Excellent Choice of topic reflects high level of personal interest. Student explains reason for topic and format of project. Potential for personal growth is clearly thought out and well explained. No writing errors. The purpose of the project is clearly defined in a thesis statement.	Good Choice of topic reflects some level of personal interest. Student choice for topic or format not clearly explained. Potential for personal growth is somewhat thought out and explained. Some writing errors, does not affect fluidity. The purpose of the project is adequately defined in a thesis statement.	Fair Choice of topic does not reflect personal interest. Choice of topic and or format not clearly explained. Little personal investment or potential for personal growth is evident. Thesis statement does not clearly define the project. Many writing errors, affects fluidity.	Poor Section absent or written with minimal information.<BR> Thesis statement may not be present or is poorly defined.
Personal Reflection Summary	Excellent Evidence of metacognition. Student shows deep self-analysis and introspection. Daily journals present where required Summary clearly shares student's heart in how project impacted them.	Good Personal logs (if required) not complete or have sparse entries. Information Collection and Evaluati	Excellent Student gathered information from a variety of quality electronic and/or print sources. Sources include critical readings/information relating to the thesis or project. Primary sources were included (if appropriate) 5+ sources	Good Student gathered information from a variety of relevent sources- print and electronic. 3-5 sources	Fair Student gathered information from a limited range or sources and displayed minimal effort in selecting quality resources. 1-2 sources	Poor Student gathered information that lacked relevance, quality, depth, and balance.
Analysis	Excellent Student carefully analyzed the information collected and drew appropriate and inventive conclusions supported by evidence. Voice of the student writer is evident. Growth in a personal level is evident.	Good Student product shows that a good effort was made in analyzing the information gathered. It is evident the student experienced personal growth.	Fair Student conclusions could be supported by stronger evidence. Level of analysis lacking depth. Limited evidence of new learning or personal growth is apparent.	Poor Student conclusions are a simple re-statement of information. No evidence of personal growth.
Synthesis	Excellent Student developed an appropriate structure for communicating the product. There is a logical and creative organization with smooth transitions where needed. Product is fluid and cohesive.	Good Student logically organized information and made good connections among ideas.	Fair Student effort was inadequate to bring good organization and fluidity to the product.	Poor Product is not logically or effectively structured.
Documentation	Excellent Students documents all sources, including visuals, sounds, animations, etc. Sources are properly cited, both in-text and in works-cited/works consulted pages/slides. Documentation is error free.	Good Students documents sources with some care. Some errors noted.	Fair Documentation poorly organized, incorrectly formated.	Poor Documentation absent. (Paper is incomplete. This section must be submitted to receive a grade) Penalty will be assessed for late submission or if it must be re-done.
Product/Process	Excellent Student effectively and creatively used appropriate communication tools to convey their conclusions and demonstrated thorough, effective research techniques. Product displays creativity and originality.	Good Student effectively communicates the results of research to the audience.	Fair Student fails to clearly communicate the purpose and/or information gathered.	Poor Student showed little evidenct of thoughtful research. Product does not effectively communicate information of project topic.
Writing Mechanics	Excellent All written materials are error-free. Correct spelling, punctuation, sentence construction, and grammar.	Good Written materials are mostly error free. (No more than 3/written page or equivalent)	Fair Many errors present. (>3/page) Detracts from fluidity of written information.	Poor No effort is apparent in proof-reading or self-editing. No regard for proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, or good writing mechanics.
