Research Paper Rough Draft 
The rough draft will be typed in correct MLA format and contain a completed introductory paragraph with a clear thesis, multiple body paragraphs that relate back to the thesis, a fluid organization, correct citations, and a 'working' Works Cited page. The paper will follow the order of the outline.

Introduction consists of sentences of which one, the last sentence, is the thesis statement and the sentences flow throughout the paragraph. Attention getter is very good.
Fair

Introduction consists of 3-4 sentences including the thesis statement. The sentences have a weak connection throughout the paragraph. Weak or uninteresting attention getter.
Poor

Introduction consists of 3 sentences including the thesis statement. The sentences have no connection in the paragraph OR there is no thesis statement in the introduction. Weak or no attention getter.
Citations-correctness

Excellent

All of the citations in the paper are formatted properly, with or without signal phrases, including parentheses, page numbers, and author's name. All citations come from sources listed on works cited.
Good

Most (75-90%) of the citations in the paper are formatted properly, with or without signal phrases, including parentheses, page numbers, and author's name. All citations come from sources listed on works cited.
Fair

Some (50-75%) of the citations in the paper are formatted properly, with or without signal phrases, including parentheses, page numbers, and author's name. Citations may or may not match sources listed on works cited.

Very little (25-50%) of the paper follows the outline. Paper needs a major re-organization or outline needs to be re-arranged, added to, etc.
Works Cited

Excellent

"working" Works Cited includes all required information in proper MLA format with at least 5 of the 5 required sources listed.
Good

"working" Works Cited includes required information with no more than 2-3 errors in MLA format and at least 5 of the 5 required sources listed.
Fair

"working" Works Cited is missing signficant amount of required information or contains more than 3 errors in MLA format. Does not use all required sources or sources do not match the 2 print, 2 Internet rule.
Poor

"working" Works Cited does not include required information, is not in MLA format, has many errors and contains less than required sources listed.
Mechanics

Excellent

Paper contains very few spelling errors. No first or second person is included except in quotes. Paper uses formal language throughout and does not contain any contractions. Paper is written in present tense unless historical information.
Good

Paper contains no more than three spelling errors. No second person is used and first person is used minimally. Formal language is used most of the time. Paper is written in present tens.
