Sound That Tells a Story Flash Animation For this project students will develop a storyboard reel that will allow them to present their storyboards an audience. The students will use a variety of software and online learning tools to complete this project. Students’ will technically capture, create and add sound as well as demonstrate how they will express an idea and or feeling to add to their storytelling through pre-visualization (storyboards). Criteria for Storyboard Reel

Formative Assessment The formative criteria are to be assessed as students are working on their projects. Assessment is coming from peers and teacher through one-on-one collaboration, class discussions and Moodle forums.
Originality Origination of sound, ability to explain how they were created/captured.	Excellent I am able to easily and clearly explain how my sounds were created and or captured. The sounds are original or meet acceptable use guidelines and show relevance to my project.	Good I am able to explain how my sounds were created and or captured. The sounds are original or meet acceptable use guidelines.	Satisfactory I can explain how my sounds were created and or captured. I gave little effort to creating original sounds but I used media that met acceptable use guidelines.	Needs Improvement I am not able to explain how I obtained my sounds for my storyboard reel. I cannot produce evidence of the sounds origination.
Expression Response or reaction to the sound and if it evokes an emotion or feeling and if it adds or detracts from the story.	Excellent Feedback from my peers and my teacher clearly indicates that my reel evoked emotion and feeling and that the sounds added to the effectiveness of the the reel.	Good Feedback from my peers and my teacher indicate that the sound is effective in my storyboard reel.	Satisfactory Feedback from my peers and my teacher indicates that my reel evoked some emotion and feeling and that the sounds added to the effectiveness of the the reel but they could be improved.	Needs Improvement Feedback from my peers and my teacher clearly indicates that my reel evoked little if any emotion and feeling and that the sounds had little impact on my reel. Some sounds may detract from the story.
Quality Is the sound quality good or appropriate for the project?	Excellent Sound quality is excellent. It is clear and at the appropriate volume.	Good Sound quality is good. It is clear and is at a consistent volume.	Satisfactory Sound quality is adequate. Some sounds could be improved in quality. Level in volume is not always consistent.	Needs Improvement Sound quality is poor. Sounds could be improved in quality. Level in volume is rarely consistent. Audience is often questioning what they heard and what purpose the sound served for the reel.
Editing/Timing Does the pacing and timing of the reel lend itself to the telling of the story?	Excellent The pacing and timing of the reel is excellent and helps deliver the story effectively.	Good The pacing and timing of the reel is good clearly telling the story.	Satisfactory The pacing and timing of the reel is acceptable. Some of the timing is off detracting from the story.	Needs Improvement The pacing and timing of the reel is not working. My story is not clearly understood because of the questions my audience is asking me.
Summative Assessment
Organization/Time Management Use of lab and instruction time as well as use of resources available on Moodle in and out of class.	Excellent Used time efficiently and finished project in a timely manner, demonstrating forethought and preparation.	Good Used time efficiently most of the time and finished project in a timely manner.	Satisfactory Project required extra time to complete due to inefficient use of lab time given and lack of preparation. Use of Media Media (content/assets) should demonstrate understanding of new and past tools and techniques attained.	Excellent Created a comprehensive storyboard reel using precise sounds and timing that reflects a logical and creative story.	Good Created a storyboard reel using general sounds and timing that reflects an interesting story.	Satisfactory Used the basic techniques to create a brief and basic storyboard reel.	Needs Improvement Used minimal tools and software features of Flash and Audition.
Technical Skills Use of technical skills and techniques appropriate for project and desired outcome.	Excellent Performed the basic technical skills without teacher's guidance	Good Performed the basic technical skills with minimum guidance of the lab instructor	Satisfactory Performed the basic technical skills with teacher's constant guidance	Needs Improvement Failed to perform basic technical skills even with teacher guiding tasks
Final Product The final finished product should exhibit the purpose of the assignment and reflect knowledge expected to have obtained by that point in time.	Excellent Storyboard reel reflected detailed thought and precise, progressive planning.	Good Storyboard reel reflected logical thought and planning.	Satisfactory Storyboard reel reflected some thought and basic planning, however was rushed due to poor use of time.	Needs Improvement Storyboard reel reflected lack of planning and little thought.
Time Duration of storyboard appropriate and at a sensible frame rate.	Excellent Storyboard reel ran for the planned amount of time appropriate for the students story.	Good Storyboard reel ran over/under the planned amount of time appropriate for the students story.	Satisfactory Storyboard reel ran over/under the planned amount of time appropriate for the students story. Timing is awkward and storyboard is still a work-in-progress.	Needs Improvement Storyboard reel length does not reflect the planned amount of time appropriate for the students story. Adjusting frame rate only to meet the length specifications is not acceptable.
