Meets Expectations The student spells most sight words correctly. The student phonetically spells the beginning and ending of words correctly, but leaves out medial sounds.	Exceeds Expectations The student spells sight words correctly. The student phonetically spells the beginning middle and ending of each word.
Ideas	Moving towards expectations The student includes a picture with little or no details. The student does not include words or the words are not legible.	Meets Expectations The student includes a picture with some details. The student writes some words to accompany the picture.	Exceeds Expectations The student includes a picture with a lot of details that clearly conveys a message. The student adds one or more sentences to explain the picture.
Sequence	Moving towards expectations The student has no discernable beginning, middle, and end to his story.	Meets Expectations The student has some detail for one area of sequencing, but not all three.	Exceeds Expectations The student has included details for the beginning, the middle, and the end of his story.
Rhyming Words	Moving towards expectations The student has used no rhyming words in his story.	Meets Expectations The student has attempted to write rhyming words; however, these are not rhyming words.	Exceeds Expectations The student has successfully written sentences including rhyming words in his story.
