Beginning Sentence	Poor Beginning does not introduce the reader to the story.	Fair Beginning sentence introduces reader to story.	Good Beginning sentence creates interest and introduces the reader to the story.
Characters	Poor No description of the characters are given except for names.	Fair Little description is given about the characters.	Good Writer describes the characters with much detail and helps the reader really know the characters.
Setting	Poor No description of the setting is mentioned in the story.	Fair Little description of setting is given in the story.	Good Writer is descriptive of the setting and helps the reader create a mental picture.
Dialogue	Poor No dialogue is used in the story.	Fair Very little dialogue is used in the story.	Good Writer uses dialogue often to create interest and help bring the characters to life.
Conflict	Poor No conflict is present in the story.	Fair Conflict is not introduced well and/or resolution is not made.	Good Writer describes the conflict well and has an effective resolution.
Grammar/Spelling/Punctuation	Poor Many errors are made in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.	Fair Few errors are made in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.	Good No errors are made in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
