LS 2B - Paragraphs This is a rubric for scoring basic paragraphs.
	Needs more work! Includes none of the components of a clear and structurally accurate paragraph. 0 pts	Pretty good! Includes some of the components of a clear and structurally accurate paragraph. 1 pts	You've done it! Includes all of the components of a clear and structurally accurate paragraph. 2 pts
Relevance 5 % Does this paragraph answer the question being asked?	Needs more work! The paragraph does not address the question being asked.	Pretty good! This paragraph patially addresses the question being asked.	You've done it! This paragraph address the question being asked..
Topic Sentence 20 % The topic sentence of the paragraph should give the reader a good idea of what will be covered.	Needs more work! The paragraph does not begin with a topic sentence.	Pretty good! The topic sentence does not give reader enough information about the paragraph.	You've done it! The topic sentence gives a good idea of what will be discussed in the paragraph.
Supporting Sentences 20 % Supporting sentences should relate to the topic sentence and give detail.	Needs more work! Supporting sentences do not relate to the topic sentence.	Pretty good! Supporting sentences relate to the topic sentence.	You've done it! Supporting sentences relate to the topic sentence and use detail.
Ending Sentence 20 % The ending sentence should summarize the paragraph without using the same words as the topic sentence.	Needs more work! There is no ending sentence.	Pretty good! The ending sentence repeats topic sentence often using the same words.	You've done it! The ending sentence summarizes paragraph without using same words as topic sentence.
Organization 20 % Ideas are presented in a sequential and logical manner.	Needs more work! No sequence or illogical sequence is used.	Pretty good! A basic sequence is used but 1-2 sentences are out of order.	You've done it! A sequence is used and all sentences follow logical order.
Sentence Structure 5 % Do the sentences use the correct s/v order for statements and v/s order for questions?	Needs more work! Writer writes in fragments and makes many errors in word form, and word order.	Pretty good! Writer writes in simple sentences with some errors in word form, and word order.	You've done it! Writer writes complete sentences; no run-ons or fragments; some variety in length and type.
Mechanics and Grammar 5 % Is the grammar correct and are the words spelled correctly?	Needs more work! The paragraph contains 4 or more errors in s/v agreement, verb tense, number, etc and/or more than 4 mispelled words.	Pretty good! The paragraph contains 1-3 errors in s/v agreement, verb tense, number, etc and/or 1-3 mispelled words.	You've done it! The paragraph has no errors in s/v agreement, verb tense, number, etc and no mispelled words.
Capitalization 2.5 % The paragraph and all proper nouns within it begin with a capital letter.	Needs more work! The paragraph does not begin with a capital letter and has more than 2 errors in capitalization.	Pretty good! The paragraph has 1-2 or more errors in capitalization.	You've done it! All sentences within the paragraph begin with a capital letter and the paragraph has no other capitalization errors.
Punctuation 2.5 % Does the sentence contain the appropriate ending and other punctuation?	Needs more work! The sentence contains no ending punctuation or all punctuation is incorrect.	Pretty good! The sentence contains half or more errors in punctuation.	You've done it! The sentence contains the correct ending punctuation.
