Student has at least two specific details from the story to support each type of evidence. (ie. two details that might relate to the character's thoughts AND support the thesis)
Exceeds expectation

Student has at least three details from the story to support each type of evidence.
Mechanics/Word Choice/Sentence Fluency

Does not meet expectations

More two errors in spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. Some incomplete sentences or run on sentences. Word choice far below grade level.
Approaching expectations

No more than two errors in spelling , capitalization, and punctuation. Vocabulary is slightly below grade level. Sentence structure needs more variety.
Meets expectations

No more than one error in spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. Variety of sentence structures (simple, compound, and complex). Grade level vocabulary.
Exceeds expectation

Zero errors in spelling, punctuation, and capitalization, and a variety of sentence structures (simple, compound, and complex). Grade level or above vocabulary.
