Ideas and Organization	Poor The story doesn't focus on one event or subject. My ideas do not relate to each other. The ideas are strung together in a loose or random fashion.	Fair I write about one event but my ideas are not specific enough to make the story interesting. The organization is a little confusing.	Good My paper is focused and interesting. There are some details included. There is a clear beginning, middle and ending.	Excellent My paper holds the readers' attention. I write ideas which focus on one event and I give several interesting details to describe this event. The paper is well organized with a clear beginning, middle and ending that captures the readers interest.
Word Choice:	Poor I did not use interesting words in my paper. I need to choose more interesting words.	Fair I choose functional words that are simple with very little interest.	Good I use words that attempt to catch the attention of the reader.	Excellent I use interesting words which convey the intended message in a precise and natural way.
Sentence Fluency:	Poor Sentences are all simple and lack variety. This writing feels "robotic".	Fair Sentences are all similar in format. The writing feels choppy and does not flow well.	Good Sentences are well structred. Some vary in length and can be read with fluency.	Excellent Sentences are well built, strong with varied lengths. The writing flows well when read aloud.
Conventions:	Poor Errors in spelling, grammar, usage and/or punctuation make my paper difficult to read.	Fair This paper shows little understanding of writing conventions. There are errors in spelling, grammar, usage and/or punctuation that effect the quailty of the paper.	Good This paper shows an understanding of writing conventions. There are some errors in spelling, grammar, usage and/or punctuation.	Excellent This paper reflects a good grasp of standard writing conventions. There are very few errors in spelling, grammar, usage and/or punctuation.
Voice:	Poor This paper doesn't reflect a personal connection. It appears that the writer does not relate to topic.	Fair This paper shows very little personal uniqueness and does not engage the audience.	Good This paper shows some uniqueness. There is a sincere attempt to engage the reader/audience.	Excellent This paper speaks directly to the reader. It is obvious that the topic is a personal experience of the author.
