Class Participation Grade Criteria 
Below is a chart that shows you exactly how your class participation grade will be evaluated. All students are expected to participate in class! Students should understand that their participation mark begins at 0 and then is built up through active participation. Students DO NOT automatically recieve a perfect participation mark at the beginning of the term and then "lose points" through non-participation.

Student arrives to class with required materials- a writing utensil and an English Notebook.

Student is always prepared for class with assignments and required materials. Student takes notes without being prompted to.

GOOD-1pt
Student is usually prepared for class with assignments and required materials, possibly attempting to submit some materials late. Sometimes, student needs to be prompted to take notes.

FAIR-0 points
Student is frequently unprepared for class with assignments and required materials, possibly attempting to submit some materials late. Often, student needs to be prompted to take notes.
Poor

POOR-0 points
Student is almost always unprepared for class with assignments and required materials, possibly attempting to submit some materials late. Student almost always needs to be prompted to take notes. Student breaks or loses borrowed materials.

Student asks questions, participates in pair/group discussions and does not blatantly use cell phone/or airpods at all.
Good

GOOD-Investing and Participating 1pt
Student asks questions, and participates in pair/group discussions. May have blatantly used cell phone/airpods at least once. Student seldom calls out or holds off topic discussions.
Fair

FAIR-Avoiding and Withdrawing
0 points
Student rarely participates in class, struggles with pair/group discussions. May have blatantly used cell phone/airpods two or three times.
Poor

POOR-Disrupting 0 points
Student never participates in class, does not participate in pair/group discussions. May have blatantly used cell phone/airpods four or more times. Disruptions include getting out of a seat; wandering; talking and/or touching peers; loud noises (banging desks, etc).
ATTITUDE

Positive student attitudes relate to interest, self-control, enthusiasm and respect for others.

Student usually behaves morally and appropriately with other students and teacher, both inside and outside the classroom. Minimal side conversation; minimal call outs or disruptions.
Fair

FAIR 0 points
Student sometimes behaves morally and appropriately with other students and teacher, both inside and outside the classroom. Student calls out repeatedly; holds off topic conversations. Speech is often inappropriate.
Poor

POOR 0 points
Student never behaves morally and appropriately with other students and teacher, both inside and outside the classroom. Intentionally vandalizes or breaks property (pencils, papers, desks). Student gets out of seat; touches or talks to peers as they move about the room without permission.
