Rhythm

Inconsistent pulse. Most rhythms are incorrect. Played within 30 bpm of performance tempo.

Basic sense of pulse. Some rhythms are incorrect. Played within 20 bpm of performance tempo.

Secure pulse with minor rhythmic problems. Played slightly slower than performance tempo.
5 A+
Strong sense of pulse. All rhythms performed accurately. Played at performance tempo.
Dynamics & Articulation
1 D
No distinguishable difference between any of the dynamic and articulation markings.
2 C
A few of the dynamics and articulations are observed but most are missed or ignored. There is little distinguishable difference between different markings.
3 B
Several of the dynamic markings and articulations are observed and there is occasional difference between markings.
4 A
Most of the dynamic and articulation markings are observed and there is clear, distinguishable difference between markings.
5 A+
All of the dynamic and articulation markings are observed and there is clear and distinguishable difference during all markings.
Tone
1 D
Poor sound. Needs more air, volume and consistency in tone
2 C
Sound is not developed. Keep working towards more volume and consistency in tone.
3 B
Tone is generally consistent. Continue to work on improving embouchure and use of air.
4 A
Tone is developed. Good embouchure, use of air, volume and consistency in tone.
5 A+
Tone is excellent. Great use of embouchure control, air, volume and consistency in tone.
