Vocabulary Usage Enter criteria description	Poor Uses the first and second person throughout the essay (I,we,you, us) when the words are not in quotes. I think that... is used several times.	Fair Uses the first or second person maybe once or twice. Uses an average level of vocabulary. Perhaps one to two words from the vocabulary this semester.	Good Does not use the first or second person in the essay, unless it's included in the quotes. Uses four to five words from the vocabulary this semester.	Excellent Excellent use of vocabulary. Does not have words like thing, it, stuff. Uses seven to eight words from the vocabulary lists this semester.
Sentence Structure Enter criteria description	Poor Contains paragraphs with a simple sentence structure. Sentences are generally the same length.	Fair Contains sentences with some variety of sentence structure. Some attempts at composing complex sentences.	Good Contains paragraphs transitions, and varied sentence structure. Quotes are punctuated accurately with the (Act.Scene.Line(s)) in parenthesis.(II.iii.1-2).	Excellent No errors that are noticeable to the trained eye.
Evidence-use of quotes	Poor No quotes are used.	Fair One quote is used. Writer provides interpretation of quote.	Good Two quotes are used. Writer provides explanation of quotes, and some analysis.	Excellent Three quotes are carefully chosen and crafted. Lead-ins are used to introduce quotes. Each quote is related back to the writer's topic for the paragraph.
