Opinions and interpretations are minimally supported with details from the passages.	3 The written response indicates a good understanding of the main characters. The traits selected to describe the character are adequately supported with accurate relevant details from the story.	4 The written response is fully developed and indicates an excellent understanding of the main characters. The traits selected are fully supported with accurate, relevant details from the passages.
Elaboration/Evidence	1 Does not provide evidence or leaves out reasoning. Only provides reasoning that does not link evidence to the claim.	2 Provides correct but insufficient evidence (too little) evidence to support the claim. May include some incorrect evidence as well. Explanation not fully complete.	3 Provides correct evidence to support claim but does not elaborate fully on the evidence.	4 Provides correct and sufficient evidence to support claim. Evidence and elaboration and contributes to overall understanding.
