The presentation did a poor job summarizing article. Main parts omitted. Information misread or misunderstood. Couldn't answer questions about the reading. No vocabulary defined.
Approaching Proficiency 2

The presentation did a fair job of covering the article but failed to be complete. One or two key ideas missing. Explanations weren't thorough. Answers to questions very broad, have to ask others in the group for help. Very little vocabulary is defined, or speaker doesn't know the meanings.
Proficient 3

The presentation accurately summarized the information and understood it fairly well. Could accurately and completely answer questions about article, although may have to refer to the reading or to others in the group for a little help. Summarizes main points one more time at the end. Good vocabulary choices.
Exceeding

The presentation thoroughly and expertly explained all parts of the article. Everyone could answer questions accurately, easily. Knows the readings really well. Excellent summarizing slides. Excellent explanation of vocabulary.
Design

No evidence of proficiency 1

Poor effort. Little to no hard work was put into the creation of the slides. They don't match in theme. Lines don't appear individually. Hard to read. TOO much text, not in own words. No helpful charts, images. Too few, no title slide. No quotations. Doesn't put text in to own words. No transition between sections/speakers.
Approaching Proficiency 2

Fair effort. Slides match but may be difficult to read. Lines don't appear separately. Images don't help explain, just decoration. May be too much text on slides; hard to see or too much to read. No quotations, statistics. Somewhat puts text into own words. A little transition between sections and speakers.
Proficient 3

Good effort. Slides match. Easy to read, pleasant, neat to view. Lines appear as discussed. Not too much text in each bullet point. Uses graphs, statistics, and imagery to enhance and clarify key concepts. Use of own words to explain. Word choice may be a bit inadequate. Good summary that leads into next speaker.
Exceeding

Excellent effort in creating the designs to be easily read, pleasing, strategic layout of images and information. Visually explains concepts well. Excellent use of images, facts, charts, maps, etc. Excellent use of quotations. Content may go beyond the assigned readings. Word choice carefully chosen to convey information accurately. Excellent transitions between speakers.

Speaks too fast/slowly/quietly. No variation in force, pitch, emphasis of speech--monotone. Doesn't adopt a "teaching" or "presenting" manner.
Didn't seem to understand what he/she is explaining. No eye contact. Hands in pockets or distracting. Isn't prepared with what to say. Lacks confidence. A lot of filler words: "uh," "um," "like." Uses slang, limited vocabulary. Doesn't take presentation very seriously.
Approaching Proficiency 2

May speak a bit too softly/loudly/gratingly. Somewhat adopts a "teaching' role and manner. Little variation in pitch, force to indicate emphasis. A bit montone. Some eye contact and some natural gestures. Some confidence. Some filler words. Somewhat understands concepts. Some slang, some well-chosen words. Somewhat knows material. Somewhat prepared; somewhat serious about presenting.
Proficient 3

Speaks audibly, expressively, naturally. Adopts "teaching," "presenting" attitude and manner. Eye contact and mostly natural gestures. Some confidence. Somewhat good vocabulary. Maybe a little use of filler words. Well prepared and practiced presentation; student cares about topic and wants audience to understand.
