SFHS Still Life Rubric 
Students will draw from a still life and apply drawing and shading techniques they have learned to render a final drawing that illustrates their understanding of drawing concepts we have studied in class.

Did not attempt to create a composition, just drew some objects.

Attempted to draw what he/she saw. Some use of contour lines used. Good composition but proportions not all accurate.

Student neatly drew what he/she saw. Strong use of symmetry in proportion of objects and great balance of positive and negative space. Included background elements.
Value/Shading

Did not apply shading. Did not apply highlights.

An attempt at shading was made but was messy or more shading needed. Either too dark or way to light in values. Shading not done in the way taught. Some sort of value scale turned in with finished drawing

Good attempt at shading was made at least three values shown and shading showed some of the shading techniques learned in class. A value chart was turned in with finished drawing but was unlabeled.

Shaded neatly using shading techniques learned in class. All five values shown in finally drawing. Value chart with five values and labels turning in with finished drawing.

The amount of stray marks, smudges, or paper imperfections detracts from the overall appearance of the artwork.

Many stray marks or smudges are evident but do not greatly detract from the overall appearance of the artwork.

A few stray marks or smudges are evident but do not greatly detract from the overall appearance of the artwork.

Presentation of the work is clean and neat with no stray marks, smudges, wrinkles or curled edges of paper.
Time/Work Ethic

Poor

Did not stay on task and/or show respect. Talkative/slept in class/did other work/read in class. Time given on this assignment was not used wisely.

Rarely stayed on task. Talkative and work less than half of the time given.
