Content/ theme	Poor There's nothing at stake in the poem. Why was it written? Cliche. Uninteresting. Expected. Clarity issue.	Fair There's tension and an idea but it hasn't fully come together yet. The reader has to fill in some backstory in order for the poem to make sense.	Good The poem captures reader. Poem is fluent and has a message.
Imagery	Poor Cliche City Abstractions (possibly void of imagery)	Fair Interesting imagery but unclear as to how it's moving the poem forward or what it has to do with the theme.	Good Authentic images support ideas. Poet has transported the reader through her/his images. Images relate to theme.
Word choice/literary devices	Poor Unclear reasoning behind word choice. Serious syntax, diction, and clarity issues. Only one literary device is present. Literary devices don't make sense.
