Poetry Speech
	Level Four 4 pts	Level Three 3 pts	Level Two 2 pts	Level One 1 pts
Poem Selection	Level Four Student includes all poems taught and written in class.	Level Three Student is missing less than five poems that were taught and written in class.	Level Two Student is missing between five and ten poems that were taught and written in class.	Level One Student is missing more than ten poems that were taught and written in class.
Word Usage	Level Four Student’s use of vocabulary is precise, vivid, and paints a strong clear and complete picture in the reader’s mind.	Level Three Student’s use of vocabulary is routine.	Level Two Student’s use of vocabulary is more telling than showing.	Level One Student’s use of vocabulary is very basic.
Form	Level Four Each poem is complete and follows its intended form.	Level Three Each poem is mostly complete and tries to follow the intended form.	Level Two Each poem is somewhat complete and may stray significantly or is written as prose.	Level One Each poem is incomplete and not written in the proper form.
Understanding	Level Four Student’s work demonstrates a complete understanding of the assignment.	Level Three Student’s work demonstrates an understanding of the assignment.	Level Two Student’s work demonstrates some understanding of the assignment.	Level One Student’s work lacks understanding of the assignment.
Language Conventions	Level Four Proper use of spelling and grammar is employed consistently throughout the poem. Punctuation is utilized when necessary. Enhances the meaning of the poem.	Level Three A couple of spelling or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish the meaning of the poem. Punctuation is utilized when necessary.	Level Two The poet's intended meaning is muddled by several spelling or grammar errors. Punctuation may be misused.	Level One There are numerous spelling or grammar errors, making the poem difficult to understand. Punctuation is used incorrectly. The meaning of the poem is unclear.
