Knowledge and Understanding	Level 4 Student response has at least two ideas present.	Level 3 Student response has one idea present.	Level 2 Student response has some retell and/or the idea is not clearly stated.	Level 1 Student response is a retell with no ideas about the book present.
Supporting Evidence	Level 4 Student response has several examples which support the ideas	Level 3 Student response has at least two examples which support the ideas	Level 2 Student response has at least one example to support the idea stated and/or support given in not clear.	Level 1 Student response does not have any examples to support their ideas.
Language and grammar	Level 4 Reading response is written with proper sentence structure. Student uses correct punctuation and capitalization is demonstrated.	Level 3 Reading response is written with correct sentence structure and vocabulary. Proper punctuation and capitalization is usually demonstrated.	Level 2 Sentence structure and vocabulary is continuing to develop. Some use of correct punctuation and capitalization is demonstrated.
