	Poor - F 1 pts	Below Average - D 2 pts	Average - C 3 pts	Good - B 4 pts	Excellence - 5 5 pts
Rhythm Accuracy and Tempo	Poor - F No evidence of steady pulse	Below Average - D Pulse is unstable with major rhythmic errors.	Average - C Pulse is fairly steady but there are repeated small rhythmic errors.	Good - B Steady pulse with few rhythmic errors.	Excellence - 5 Steady pulse with accurate rhythms at all times.
Note Accuracy	Poor - F No recognizable tune is present.	Below Average - D Many notes are incorrect - student seems unfamiliar with the tune.	Average - C Shows a good feel for the notes but with repeated small mistakes in pitch.	Good - B Mostly correct with a few errors. There may be small intonation problems.	Excellence - 5 Pitches are correct and intonation has a characteristic quality sound in all registers.
Tone Quality	Poor - F Sound is totally lacking in quality due to a poorly formed or weak embouchure/grip and no breath support.	Below Average - D Limited projection - tone is poor & range is limited because of weak embouchure and little breath support.	Average - C Fair use of projection and fullness of tone. There is room for improvement in posture, embouchure & breath support.	Good - B Considerable use of projection and fullness of tone but still somewhat short of a mature sound.	Excellence - 5 Tone is full and well projected. A truly characteristic sound for the instrument.
Musicality	Poor - F Student Does not give attention to dynamics, articulations, phrasing, or style indications.	Below Average - D Rarely uses dynamics, articulations & phrasing or follows indications of style.	Average - C Student displays inconsistant use of dynamics, articulation, phrasing & style.	Good - B Student displays ability to play with correct dynamics, articulation, phrasing & style with minor errors.	Excellence - 5 Student consistently plays with appropriate dynamics, articulation, phrasing & style.
