Poor
The student fulfilled the assignment, but made little exploration of ideas before settling on one, tried little unusual or novel; they might have substantially copied others’ ideas; was easily stymied by problems.
Fair
The student tried an idea, and required help to solve problems adequately; the idea was not novel or original; student based his or her work on someone else's idea.
Good

Fair
The project was mostly completed with a minimum amount of effort used. The student does not take pride in the outcome, and did not work during approximately half of class studio time.
Good
The student finished the project, but it could have been improved with more effort; there was adequate interpretation of the assignment, but a lack of finish; the student chose an easy project and completed it. The student did not make full use of class studio time.
Excellent

Craftsmanship/Skill/Consistency
Poor
The work showed indifferent craftsmanship, with some proportions or many details not completed correctly or as intended; Minimal techniques learned were used.
Fair
The artwork showed general craftsmanship; a few techniques learned so far were used somewhat successfully; adequate, but not as good as it could have been, a bit careless in several aspects or places.
Good
With a little more effort, the work could have been outstanding; a number of techniques learned so far were used successfully; lacks occasional finishing touches.
Excellent
The project was beautifully and patiently done; a great number of techniques learned so far were used successfully; it was as good as hard work could make it.
Willingness to Take Risks
Poor
Artwork appears to regress, and does not meet standards of
previous class assignments.
Fair
Artwork demonstrates
that student is not willing to try new approaches (project merely repeats an earlier class assignment).
Good

try something new
occasionally.
