	Poor 10 pts	Fair 20 pts	Good 30 pts	Excellent 40 pts
Language Mechanics	Poor Student's letter contains numerous errors in grammar, spelling, or phrasing or major errors that impede reading the letter.	Fair Student's letter contains 3 or more minor errors in grammar, spelling, or phrasing.	Good Student's letter may contain 1-2 minor errors in grammar, spelling, or phrasing. These errors do not impede reading.	Excellent Student's letter is free of errors in grammar, spelling, and phrasing.
Logical Reasoning	Poor Student did not give at least two reasons, or their reasons were not linked to their position.	Fair Student gave two reasons that were clearly linked to their position.	Good Student gave three reasons that may not be clearly linked to their position.	Excellent Student provided three or more reasons that are clearly and logically linked to their position.
Format	Poor Student made more than 2 major errors, such as forgetting a significant component entirely.	Fair Student made 3-4 minor errors or 1-2 major errors in formatting their letter.	Good Student made 1-2 minor errors, such as mistakes in spacing, in the format of their business letter.	Excellent Student's business letter followed standard block format precisely.
