	1 Student demonstrates minimal understanding. (N/A)	2 Student demonstrates mastery of some of the criteria. (N/A)	3 Student demonstrates mastery of the criteria. (N/A)	4 Student demonstrates understandings above and beyond the criteria. (N/A)
Number of entries Frequently writes in journal throughout course of project.	1 Student writes only 1 or 2 journal entries.	2 Student writes only 3 or 4 journal entries.	3 Student completes all 5 required journal entries at instructed times during the project.	4 Student achieves a level 3 AND writes additional entries between instructed times.
Communicates Effectively Journal entries demonstrate quality communication of thoughts, ideas, and/or questions during the project.	1 Journal entries are very superficial and do not reveal deep thinking by the student about the project.	2 Most of the journal entries are clear, easy to understand, and demonstrate a strong sense of engagement by noting thoughts and questions.	3 All journal entries demonstrate a strong sense of engagement in the project and are clearly written to provide easy to understand text.	4 All journal entries include demonstration of thinking beyond requirements.
