RAFT Format
Great!
Student follows RAFT by designing a piece(s) that make(s) evident the role, audience, and topic. The RAFT develops the topic using the story.
Good
Student follows RAFT by properly identifying the role, audience, and topic. The RAFT partially develops the topic using the story.
Fair
Student follows RAFT by properly identifying the role, audience, and topic. The RAFT either retells the story without developing the topic OR develops the topic without reference to the story.
Poor
Student presents a RAFT that does not clearly identify a role, audience or topic. Coverage of the story and topic are insufficient.
Focus
Great!
RAFT stays on topic, never drifts from required form or type; details and information are included that are pertinent only to developed purpose.
Good
Spends most of the RAFT discussing issues on topic, but occasionally strays from the focus.
Fair
Spends some time discussing issues off topic.
Poor
Spends most of RAFT on issues that do not directly deal with the RAFT chosen.
Perspective
Great!
RAFT maintains clear, consistent point of view, tone, and ideas relevant to role played; ideas and information always tied to role and audience.
Good
Explains how character would feel about the event(s).
Fair
Shows little insight into how character would feel or act during the event(s).
Poor
Does not accurately develop characters, thoughts or reactions to the event(s).
Adding Personality
Voice
Great!
The writer seems to be writing from knowledge or experience. The author has taken the ideas and made them "his own."
Good
The writer seems to be drawing on knowledge or experience, but there is some lack of ownership of the topic.
Fair
The writer relates some of his own knowledge or experience, but it adds nothing to the discussion of the topic.
Poor
The writer has not tried to transform the information in a personal way. The ideas and the way they are expressed seem to belong to someone else.
Introduction
Organization
Great!
The introduction is inviting, states the main topic and previews the structure of the paper.
Good
The introduction clearly states the main topic and previews the structure of the paper, but is not particularly inviting to the reader.
Fair
The introduction states the main topic, but does not adequately preview the structure of the paper nor is it particularly inviting to the reader.
Poor
There is no clear introduction of the main topic or structure of the paper.
Transitions
Organization
Great!
A variety of thoughtful transitions are used. They clearly show how ideas are connected.
Good
Transitions clearly show how ideas are connected, but there is little variety.
Fair
Some transitions work well; but connections between other ideas are fuzzy.
Poor
The transitions between ideas are unclear or nonexistent.
Presentation
Great!
