Writing piece has an introduction, body, and conclusion
* The great opening paragraph draws the reader in and is at least 5-7 sentences long. The conclusion wraps the paper up with a summary and is at least 5-7 sentences long.

* The introduction and conclusion are clear but do not provide anticipation or a complete wrap up of ideas.
* Most transitions are used properly but the connections made are not always clear. Writer used 2-3 opening sentences in their opening and closing.

* The writer attempts to use various words but overloads the story so much that the meaning is lost.
* The writer did not put in a lot of effort to find the best word or phrase but instead wrote down the first thing that came into their mind.

* The writer uses a very limited amount of vivid language or none at all.
* The writer's word choice doesn't fit the story or has been used incorrectly.
* Descriptive words are used over and over, making the story boring and showing that the reader was not considered.
