Introduction/Thesis Statement	Excellent Very well developed introduction and clear thesis statement.	Good Introduction and thesis statement are fairly well developed.	Fair Introduction lacks details and/or thesis is unclear.	Poor Thesis statement is missing from introductory paragraph.
Body Paragraphs	Excellent Details in the paragraphs are clear and specific.	Good Details are provided to support contrast.	Fair There are details, but they are not clear and specific.	Poor Details are either incorrect or lacking.
Conclusion	Excellent The concluding paragraph effectively unifies the essay around the subject.	Good The concluding paragraph is overly brief	Fair The concluding paragraph does not unify or "wrap-up" the essay effectively.	Poor There is no conclusion in the essay.
Overall Organization	Excellent The details are in a clear effective order.	Good The details are in a clear order with at least two examples.	Fair Details do not adequately support the author's controlling point.	Poor Details are either missing or not in any discernible order.
