Thesis & Conclusion	Exceeds Well-written thesis statement that introduces the reader to the topic. Well-written conclusion that accurately sums up the main ideas of the body.	Meets Well-written thesis statement. Conclusion is present, but does not sum up the main ideas of the body.	Approaching Either the thesis statement or the conclusion is missing.	Below Both the thesis statement and the conclusion is missing.
Use of Transition Words	Exceeds Effectively uses transition words to get from one idea to the next.	Meets Good use of some transition words.	Approaching Some use of transitions, but they are not used correctly.	Below No transition words
Conventions	Exceeds Paragraph is indented and uses correct capitalization and punctuation.	Meets Paragraph is indented. Some errors in capitalization and/or punctuation.
