Central Idea	Above Proficiency The central idea is clearly identified and explained using clear, definitive language that wholly explains the concept.	Proficient The central idea is identified and written using complete sentence patterns.	Almost Proficient Partially identified a central idea but is not complete.	Not Proficient Attempted to write the central idea but it is incorrect.	No Evidence of Skill Did not write anything.
Supporting Ideas	Above Proficiency Supporting ideas are accurate and clearly provide evidence supporting the central idea. The writer even includes page number references and specific factua/inferential details to clearly back up the central idea concept.	Proficient Three or more supporting ideas logically support the central idea.	Almost Proficient At least three supporting ideas are included. The ideas provided show some evidence of support but are incomplete, unclear, or inaccurate in some areas.	Not Proficient An attempt to write at least one supporting idea but it is incomplete and/or incorrect	No Evidence of Skill Did not write any supporting ideas.
