Introduction & Conclusion	Excellent Engages the audience, sets up and wraps up speech effectively.	Good Attempts to engage the audience, sets up and wraps up the speech satisfactorily.	Fair Fails to engage the audience, but sets up and wraps up speech.	Needs Work Not engaging, does not set up or wrap up speech.
Thesis	Excellent Strong thesis formed from prompt.	Good Thesis statement is present.	Fair Thesis is unclear.	Needs Work No thesis or focus for the speech.
Content	Excellent Interesting content that develops the thesis throughout.	Good Some interesting content that supports the thesis throughout.	Fair Content occasionally wanders away from thesis.	Needs Work Content is barely related to thesis or is unclear.
Nonverbal	Excellent Strong eye contact and strong vocal expression.	Good Mostly strong eye contact and vocal delivery is clear.	Fair Inconsistent eye contact or speaker has vocal pauses or moments of mumbling.	Needs Work Avoids eye contact or is not vocally understandable.
Time	Excellent at least 2 minutes long	Good between 1:30 and 2 minutes.	Fair between 1 and 1 minute 30 seconds.	Needs Work Short of 1 minute.
