Developing I stated what I was going to write about in a brief sentence.	Proficient My topic was clearly stated in my introductory paragraph. I stated my opinion about my topic.	Exceptional The topic of my essay was cleary stated at the beginning of my introductory paragraph. It is a well-thought out thesis sentence that includes my opinon about the topic.
Organization the essay has a beginning, middle, and an end.	Beginning There isn't a clear beginning, middle or and end. I just started writing about my topic.	Developing I wrote a brief statement that tells what my essay is about.	Proficient My essay has a beginning, middle, and an end.	Exceptional The essay I crafted has very well written introduction followed by several body paragraphs and a conclusion that brings the essay to a close.
Supporting Details the writer gives his/her opinion and supports with details, facts, examples, etc.	Beginning My paragraph has a few details but I don't support my opinion with any good facts or expamples.	Developing I have some details that support my thesis statement.	Proficient I have selected details, facts, and examples that support my opinion.	Exceptional My essay is full of very carefully selected detail, facts, and examples that clearly support my opinion.
