Weather collages Textures All Around Us This project is connected to the second grade's science unit on weather. The unit begins with a class discussion of comparing Georgia O'Keffee's and Wissaly Kindinsky's are works of storms. The students then make their own paper with expressive textures. The paper is used to cut and collage shapes expressing their own storm. The art standards covered are: S2B1: Apply color, shape, and line to create textures S4B1: Compare and contrast works of art Rubric Code: T973AB By bethst1 Ready to use Public Rubric Subject: Arts and Design Type: Project Grade Levels: K-5

Weather collages

compare and contrast	Poor The student could not comment on comparing and contrast two works of art.	Fair The student with prompting could compare and contrast two works of art.	Good The student could compare and contrast describing 2- 3 objects in each art work.	Excellent The student could compare and contrast two works of art fully describing what is seen with addition of commenting on the elements of art used.
Different Textures	Poor The student repeated one texture only in making his/her paper and used only marker.	Fair The student used a few different textures in creating his/her paper while using marker and one other supply.	Good The student used a variety of textures for each space on his/her paper while using most of the supplies of marker, gel pens, oil pastels, construction paper crayons, and colopred pencils.	Excellent The student used different textures on each piece of paper while using most or all of the different supplies.
Collaging	Poor The student was able to cut and create a collage but was unable to create a positive/negative shape, a swirl shape, or a relief shape.	Fair The student was able to cut and collage and only able to complete one or two of the requirements.	Good The student was able to complete the collage with the positive/negative, swirl, and relief shapes.	Excellent The student used all the criteria but went beyond by creating his/her own unique shapes and cut textures.
Do I like my collage?	Poor It is ok but I could do better.	Fair I like it but there are somethings I really want to change.	Good I really like my but there is only one thing I would change.	Excellent I love my collage and there is nothing I would change!
