Instrumental Technique

The student demonstrates poor execution of slurs, legato, staccato articulation marks with many mistakes. There may be poor air support. The student is unable to perform in extreme registers or does so with poor facility and control.

The Student demonstrates fair execution of slurs, legato and staccato articulations with some mistakes. The student has a fair amount of air support. The student can perform in extreme registers with adequate facility and control but may be noticeably strained in extremes.
Meets the standards

The student demonstrates good execution of all articulation marks with few mistakes The student performs with
good air support and can perform in extreme registers of the instrument with good facility and control, but somewhat strained in extremes.
Tone

Does Not Meet The Standards

The student's tone has
major flaws in basic production. (Unfocussed, uncentered, airy sounding) The tone hinders the quality of the performance.
Almost Meets the Standards

The student's tone exhibits minor flaws in production. (slightly thin or unfocused sound)
Meets the standards

The student's tone is of a characteristic tone quality in most ranges but may occasionally distort in some passages.
Melodic/Pitch Accuracy

Does Not Meet The Standards

The student performs
inaccurate pitches/notes
throughout the performance, missing key signatures, accidentals.
Almost Meets the Standards

The student performs with some inaccurate notes/pitches and has a little difficulty with melodic precision.
Meets the standards

The student performs most of the pitches/notes
accurately.
Intonation

Does Not Meet The Standards

The student's intonation is not accurate and hinders the quality of the performance
Almost Meets the Standards

The student's intonation is somewhat accurate but includes some out of tune notes. The student may adjust some of them with limited success.
Meets the standards

The student's intonation is mostly accurate. The student adjusts the few problem pitches to an acceptable standard of intonation.
