Amazing Animal Research Unit 
Task Students research an animal of their choice. Students will organize their facts into categories: food, body, habitat, and habits. Students will demonstrate an understanding of their animal by writing their own non-fiction book. Students will also state an opinion about their animal and supply a reason for their opinion. Standards R.I.10 With prompting and support, read informational text s appropriately complex for grade 1. RI.I.5 Know and use various text features to locate key facts or information in a text. W.1.2 Write informative/explanatory exts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure. We have been learning about non fiction. We are learning to use different tools to find information.
