Fair The thesis statement is not one of the ones written for this essay and/or it is NOT in the last sentence of the intro paragraph.	Good The thesis statement IS one of the ones written for assignment AND is in last sentence of intro paragraph.
Topic Sentences Write topic sentences based on thesis "buzz words" taught in class.	Poor Topic sentences in paragraphs #2, #3, #4, and #5 do not relate back to thesis using at least two thesis buzz words and or/do not introduce support examples.	Fair Topic sentences in 1-2 of the 4 support paragraphs DO relate back to thesis using at least two thesis buzz words and DO introduce support examples.	Good Topic sentences in all four support paragraphs relate back to the thesis statement using at least two thesis buzz words and introduce support examples.
5 paragraph structure Enter criteria description	Poor Essay has less than five paragraphs and or proper intro/support/ conclusion structure is not clear.	Fair Essay has five paragraphs with clear intro/support/conclusion, but paragraphs are less than five sentences long.	Good Essay has five paragraphs, five to seven sentences each and essay has clear intro/support/conclusion.
Examples Pick concrete examples from ICB and expain how they fit with thesis.	Poor Examples are not specific and from the book (ICB) or student does not explain how examples relate to thesis.	Fair 1-2 examples are specific and from the book and explain how they connect with thesis statement.	Good All three examples are specific and from the book and each example's connection with thesis is made clear.
4th paragraph/alternate viewpoint Make sure 4th paragraph shows alternate view -point and then reassert your original opinion.	Poor 4th paragraph does not show or explain alternate view point.	Fair 4th paragraph does show alternate viewpoit but DOES NOT explain or reassert thesis opinion.	Good 4th paragraph shows and explains alterante viewpoint AND reasserts thesis opinion.
