Descriptive Writing Rubric: Who would I be? Descriptive Writing Rubric Students will describe a favorite place using sensory words to create a descriptive essay. Writing will be graded on capitalization, punctuation, use of a clear main idea, supporting details, spelling, plural and possessive noun use, use of sensory words and creative adjectives. Main Idea & Details	Excellent Essay contains a strong topic/main idea and closing along with adequate major details with supporting details.	Satisfactory Essay contains a clear topic and closing with a few major and minor details.	Needs Improvement The essay does not contain a clear main idea and/or closing and/or related details.
Spelling-	Excellent The essay is free of spelling errors.	Satisfactory The essay has 1 or 2 spelling errors.	Needs Improvement The essay has 3 or more spelling errors.
Description-	Excellent The essay has very good description. The reader can visualize being there with the main character. Very excellent use of adjectives.	Satisfactory The essay contains good description. It gives the reader a little idea of who the characer was and how they lived. Good use of adjectives.	Needs Improvement The essay is missing good description. It is very plain without good use of adjectives.
