Retelling Rubric Retelling Rubric This rubric will help teachers to assess students' retelling of a story they have read. Retelling Rubric
	Good 4 pts	Fair 2 pts	Poor 0 pts
Content	Good Includes: -- the main idea -- three supporting details	Fair Includes: --main idea --1-2 supporting details	Poor Does not include or is vague about: --the main idea --supporting details
Sequence	Good Retells all the important events in the sequence or order they happened.	Fair Retells some of the important events in the sequence or order they happened.	Poor Does not retell any of the important events in the sequence or order they happened.
Characters	Good Includes the names of all the main characters in retelling of the story.	Fair Includes the names of half of the main characters in retelling of the story.	Poor Does not include the names of any main characters in retelling of the story.
Problem/Solution	Good Includes the problem/solution in the retelling.	Fair Includes either the problem or solution in the retelling but not both.	Poor Includes neither the problem nor solution in the retelling.
Plot	Good Includes events from all of the following: --beginning --middle --end	Fair Includes events from two of the following: --beginning --middle --end	Poor Does not include events from any of the following: --beginning --middle --end
Opinion	Good Gives an opinion about the story and provides a reason for the opinion.	Fair Gives an opinion about the story but does not provide reason.	Poor Does not give an opinion about the story.
Effort	Good Retells with little or no coaching.	Fair Needs coaching (e.g. "tell me more" or specific questions).	Poor Unable to recall passage, may answer specific questions with "I don't know".
