Participates by adding comments to the group discussion that are on topic and may spark further discussion, some comments may lack depth and may not lead to questions from other students

Thoughtful and reflective comments are made in a timely and appropriate manner; responds respectfully to other students' remarks, provokes questions and comments from the group

Disrespectful of others when they are speaking; behavior indicates total non-involvement with group or discussion; rude tone, no use of scientific vocabulary, volume so low others can not hear what you are sharing

Drifts in and out of discussion, listening to some remarks while clearly missing or ignoring others; inconsistent tone, some use of scientific vocabulary, low volume that allows some of the comment to be missed

Listens to others some of the time, shows consistency when responding to the comments of others, can be unfocused while formulating own ideas; good tone, thoughtful use of scientific vocabulary, appropriate volume
Expert
Listens intently, looks directly at the speaker, absorbs and responds to what was shared; enthusiastic tone, thoughtful use of scientific vocabulary, all group members can easily hear thoughts and ideas being shared
