Demonstrate the correct use of proportion to draw a portrait.

Student has successfully illustrated the use of proportion. The face demonstrates the correct location and size of all the features.

Student has demonstrated that they understand the basic idea of proportion. Most features are in the correct location and the correct size.
2 79-70%

Student has demonstrated that objects belong in a particular location, but has not demonstrated proper use of proportion. Drawing does not resemble the person because of the proportions being off.
1 69-60%

Student has drawn their portrait without using proportion to locate their features or sizes. Features may be in incorrect locations and of incorrect size.

Project is incomplete and/or none of the components proportion are evident.

Students will demonstrate a full range of values using advanced shading techniques.

Student has successfully used value to render the form of the face. Portrait illustrates a full range of values used to show the contours and shadows.

Student has used value to render the form of the face. Drawing may not have a full range of values, or show all of the contours and shadows correctly.

Student has used value to render the form of the face, however shadows, values and contours are not correct through most of the drawing.

Student has not used value to render the form of the face. It will appear flat much like a cartoon drawing. May be shaded in a solid shade of gray.

Project is incomplete and/or has no depth due to lack of value differentiation.

Students may have some ghost lines, but overall craftsmanship displays careful, deliberate work.

Students work displays much room for improvement in deliberate, careful and thoughtful work. Smudges, errant lines, and generally hurried work is done.
1 69-60%

Student shows no concern for the craftsmanship of their work. Lines are not neat and tidy. Smudges occur all over the work. Lines are confusing and sloppy.
0 59-0%

Student has not completed the work and it shows no consideration for the quality of the craftsmanship.
