Memoir 
Students will narrate a personal memoir. The memoir should focus on the relationship of a person/place/thing and/or relate an event that had a substantial impact on the memoirist. The memoir must include effective use of dialogue, imagery, and a reflection, as well as a compelling lead paragraph and a memorable concluding paragraph.

Autobiographical with a spattering of narrative elements.
Satisfactory

Information is organized into a narrative with paragraphs that follow a sequence; unbalanced dialogue, narration and action.
Excellent

Well constructed narrative with paragraphs that follow a logical sequence; balanced dialogue, narration, and action.
Lead & Conclusion

Poor

Memoir missing both lead and concluding paragraphs.
Fair

Missing either lead or concluding paragraph; OR, both paragraphs were included, but did not "hook" reader AND left reader "hanging"
Satisfactory

Both lead and concluding paragraphs written, but one or the other was lacking (the hook or the wrap-up)
Excellent

Both lead and concluding paragraphs highly successful. Reader was "hooked" from the very beginning, and given a strong closure.
Relationship/Event
