Conventions	Moving towards expectations The student does not spell sight words correctly. The student rarely phonetically spells words. The words are unreadable.	Meets Expectations The student spells most sight words correctly. The student phonetically spells the beginning and ending of words correctly, but leaves out medial sounds.	Exceeds Expectations The student spells sight words correctly. The student phonetically spells the beginning middle and ending of each word.
Ideas	Moving towards expectations The student includes a picture with little or no details. The student does not include words or the words are not legible.	Meets Expectations The student includes a picture with some details. The student writes some words to accompany the picture.	Exceeds Expectations The student includes a picture with a lot of details that clearly conveys a message. The student adds one or more sentences to explain the picture.
Organization	Moving towards expectations The student has an incomplete date or no date. The student wrote his or her name illegibly or did not include a name.	Meets Expectations The student has added a complete date. The student wrote his or her name legibly.	Exceeds Expectations The student has included a first and last name. The student has included a complete date.
