Creativity/Originality	Excellent High degree of creativity. Combined multiple animals to create an expressive gargoyle. Gargoyle looks as if it could belong on a Gothic cathedral.	Satisfactory Shows a good level of creativity. Combined multiple animals to create an original gargoyle.	Fair Some level of creativity, goes a little beyond class demonstration.	Unsatisfactory Lacks creativity, does not go beyond class demonstration of construction.
Composition Detail	Excellent Final piece has great detail. A high level of texture is present.	Satisfactory Final piece has a good amount of detail. Some texture was added.	Fair Some amount of detail is present in final project. There is minimal texture was added.	Unsatisfactory Effort is needed to enhance finial project. There is lack of intentional texture throughout the piece.
Technique / Skill slipping, scoring, hand building, pinch pots	Excellent Techniques learned were used with great skill to create a gargoyle.	Satisfactory Techniques learned were used to create a finished gargoyle. Small pieces may have fallen off (legs, horns, ears, etc.). Craftsmanship/ Finish	Excellent The student totally sealed seams, and refined the shape with extreme excellence. Could teach others the hand building method.	Satisfactory The student showed clear evidence of sealing and smoothing seams. Shows good solid understanding of hand building method.	Fair The student made some progress in cleaning up<BR> trying to seal seams, but poorly done. Hand building method needs much more practice.	Unsatisfactory The student showed no evidence of refining the form. Seams are not put together. Scratch marks are evident were a piece was scored. Hand building method poorly done.
Painting	Excellent The paint is applied skillfully. The glaze was added evenly. All areas that need paint are covered enhancing the gargoyle.	Satisfactory The paint applied shows careful planning and control. There may be a few areas that need paint when piece is turned over that are missing paint. Overall a nice job has been done.	Fair Minimal paint neatness. There are areas that are missing paint, distracting from the finished project.	Unsatisfactory Piece shows lack of attention. Too much or too little paint has been applied. paint is sloppy and uncontrolled. Large areas are missing paint, distracting from the finished project.
