CNC Plaque
CNC Plaque
Students will create a plaque with their name or initials on the CNC router. Students will GCode program the image manually, determining the coordinates by sketching or by using a CAD software.

Student a picked a detailed drawing, that only has 31 or more circles, or arcs to draw.

Student a picked simple drawing, that only has 15 or less line, circles, or arcs to draw. Some use of drafting help tools were used; e.g. osnaps
Level 1
Student a picked very simple drawing, that only has 10 or less line, circles, or arcs to draw. No evidence of use of osnaps or other drafting help tools.
GCode Programming
Level 4
Level 3 plus another CNC project using CAM or Image to GCode.
Level 3
Student is able create a basic GCode program to accurately replicate his or her drawing.
Level 2
Student can create a GCode program with some help from the teacher.
Level 1
Student cannot create a program without a substantial amount of help from the teacher.
CNC Router Operation
Level 4
Level 3 plus another CNC project using CAM or Image to GCode.
Level 3
Student demonstrates proficiency setting up and running the CNC router.
Level 2
Student can set up and run the CNC router with some help from the teacher.
Level 1
Student cannot setup and/or run the CNC router without a substantial amount of help from the teacher.
Planning and Problem Solving
Level 4
Student is able to use classroom instruction, peer resource, and technical documentation to manufacture products independently. Process log is complete and comprehensive.
Level 3
Student manufactures product with little teacher intervention using effective planning, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Student completes a daily process log.
Level 2
Student has needed a considerable amount of teacher intervention to complete salt and pepper shakers. Student usually completes a process log.
Level 1
Student is unable to work in the shop without process-by-process set-up, instruction, and encouragement. Student rarely completes a daily process log.
Work Habits
Level 4
Student has gone above and beyond to ensure the shop remains and safe and comfortable place to work.
Level 3
Student demonstrates safe work practices, behaviours, and good housekeeping at all times.
Level 2
Student usually demonstrates safe work practices, behaviours, and good housekeeping.
Level 1
Student has not demonstrated safe work practices, behaviours, and good housekeeping.
