3-D Form
Mastery
Pencil strokes follow sphere with shading in a curved manner consistent with the spherical shape. Shape appears three-dimensional.
Developing
Shading is somewhat curved like the sphere. Shape appears somewhat flat in areas.
Emerging
Shading is almost straight and not curved like the sphere itself. Form appears flat.
Needs Improvement
Shading is difficult to determine shape of form. Form appears flat.
Light source
Mastery
Established light source with noticeable highlight. Shadow is congruent with light source for a realistic interpretation. Shadow is correct size.
Developing
Established light source with noticeable highlight. Shadow is somewhat congruent with light source. Shadow is almost correct size.
Emerging
Established light source, via lighter area. Shadow is not in line with light source and goes off in different direction. Shadow is not correct size.
Needs Improvement
Unsure of light source, not enough highlight.
Light source doesn't help with illusion of 3-D. Shadow is clearly not in line with light source or not visable, not correct size.
Value
Mastery
Blending appears smooth with proper gradations of value. Can see at least 4 values. Cast shadow is darkest value.
Developing
Blending needs some improvement, with some choppy gradations in value. Cast shadow is not the darkest value.
Emerging
Blending needs a great deal of improvement , shapes appear grainy and there is choppy gradations Grooves are etched into the paper. Shaded with less than 4 values. Cast shadow is not the darkest value.
Needs Improvement
No blending or muddy/messy blending. Blending is not repairable. Grooves are etched into the paper. Shaded with less then 4 values.
Craftsmanship
Mastery
Sphere is crisp and clean with no outside pencil strokes. Drawing appearance is very neat. No other marks are on paper except for sphere/shadow.
Developing
Drawing appearance is somewhat neat with a few smudges. No other marks are on paper except for sphere/shadow.
Emerging
Drawing is somewhat messy with some shading appearing outside of sphere/shadow. Some smudging but no other marks on paper.
Needs Improvement
Drawing appears messy. Shading appears outside of sphere/shadow. There are additional lines and smudges on paper that should have been erased.
Participation/Use of Class Time
Mastery
You were fully engaged in your art work without involving yourself in overly distracting activities.
Developing
You were engaged in work most of the time, but allowed some overly distracting activities such as conversations or not concentrating on your work to occur.
Emerging
You stayed on task some of the time but allowed distraction from conversations or not concentrating on your work to consume your time. Somewhat disruptive to other students' work.
Needs Improvement
You did not use your time wisely and demonstrated much of your art time involved in conversations or not concentrating on your work. Disruptive to other students' work.
