Melody	Distinction The melody is very clear. It is interesting and singable. It includes mostly steps, a few skips, and occasional leaps. It ends on the home tone. It may have lyrics included.	Merit The melody is mostly smooth and clear. It is singable. There are steps, skips, and leaps. It ends on the home tone.	Pass The melody is apparent in some places but unclear in others. There are more skips and leaps then steps. The home tone may not be clear.	Below Pass The song is choppy. The melody of the song is unclear.
Rhythmic Values	Distinction Student used a varitey of rhythmic values in an interesting way, including advanced rhythmic values (16th notes or smaller)	Merit Student used 3 out of the four required rhythmic values.	Pass Student used 2 out of the four required rhythmic values.	Below Pass Student did not use the appropriate variety of rhythmic values.
Noteflight Mechanics	Distinction The composition is clearly written with no errors in notation and/or rhythm. The socre is neatly presented.	Merit The composition is clearly written with 3-5 errors in notation and/or rhythm. The score may need to be presented better.	Pass The composition is developing, but there are problems with the mechanics of the notation or rhythms. The notation, intended rhythms or score contains 6-8 errors.	Below Pass The composition is poorly written or incomplete. There are clear mistakes in the score.
Composition Reflection	Distinction Both reflection questions are answered using full sentences and show a full understanding of the work completed. There are no errors in grammer or spelling and the work is presented neatly.	Merit Both reflection questions are answered using full sentences and show an understanding of the work completed. There are a few errors in grammer or spelling and the work is mostly neat.	Pass Both reflection questions are answered showing some understanding of the work completed. There are mistakes in grammer and/or spelling and the work needs to be presented neater.	Below Pass Both reflection questions are not answered.
