Instrument Families	Surpasses Expectations Always recognizes instrument family characteristics, or seeks out and classifies instruments not presented in class.	Meets Expectations Usually classifies instruments into correct categories. Clearly understands the distinctions between the instrument families.	Some Understanding Sometimes classifies instruments into correct categories using an understanding of the distinctions between the instrument families.	Little or No Understanding Never or rarely recognizes distinctions between the instrument families.
Instruments of the Orchestra	Surpasses Expectations Easily identifies by sight and sound all orchestral instruments and is able to arrange them in correct seating arrangement.	Meets Expectations Identifies most orchestral instrument by sight and some by sound and is able to arrange them in correct seating arrangement.
