Overall Content
60 %

Poor

Content is inadequate. Support from various resources, when needed, is lacking or is inaccurate. Little evidence that the presenter understands the the assignment, that is, what's required to respond adequately to the demands of the assignment.
Fair

Content is barely adequate because it's incomplete or more than occasionally off the mark. Supporting arguments, when needed, are absent, incomplete, or misapplied. Hard to judge whether the presenter "got" the assignment or simply misunderstood the points that were made.
Good

There is adequate content that is more often than not supported by appropriate arguments from the reading or from outside sources. The presentation, although not especially sophisticated, is definitely competent.
Excellent

There is more than adequate content that is well supported by appropriate arguments. Insight into the issues at hand is particularly sharp and the presenter recognizes potential flaws in his or her reasoning. Outside sources are used to make important points.
Slide Construction (If Applicable)
20 %

Poor

Slides contain far more errors in word usage, grammar, punctuation, or spelling than acceptable. Length of presentation may also be less than expected. Powerpoint slides, if used, are carelessly constructed and there's little if any evidence of proofreading.
Fair

Slides contain several errors in word usage, grammar, punctuation, or spelling. Length may be somewhat less than expected. Ideas can be followed but there's a lack of consistency in the construction of the slides. It doesn't appear that the presentation was proofread carefully before it was submitted.
Good

Slides contain only a couple of errors in word usage, grammar, punctuation, or spelling. The slides are competently done and consistently constructed even if they're not exactly elegant.
Excellent

Slides contain almost no errors in word usage, grammar, punctuation, or spelling. Length and timing of presentation conforms to the requirements. The writing is elegant and sophisticated and the slides are consistently formatted and carefully constructed.
Enthusiasm & Salesmanship
20 %

Poor

The presenter is clearly not "into" the presentation. Very little attempt is made to engage the class and to sell the necessary "points." The presenter seems unsure of many of the points being made and/or responds inadequately to questions and comments from others.
Fair

The presenter demonstrates a modest enthusiasm but appears to be more interested in fulfilling an obligation than in presenting important ideas.
Good

The presenter demonstrates enthusiasm for the topic and makes a legitimate attempt to sell the arguments to the class, although the methods used are not entirely successful.
Excellent

The presenter does a wonderful job of keeping the class focused on the topic at hand AND also entertaining them, but always does so while making valid and pertinent arguments that produce insight into the relevant issues.
