Student is able to read most sight words correctly, only making 1-2 mistakes.
ADVANCED

Students are able to read all sight words correctly.
Decoding unfamiliar words.

BEGINNING

Student does not attempt to read words even with prompting.
PROGRESSING

Student struggle to read unfamiliar words with prompting. He/she is not able to explain strategy.
PROFICIENT

Student is able to read most unfamiliar words, missing only one or two with prompting. Student is unable to explain which strategy was used to read words.
ADVANCED

Student is able to read all unfamilar words without prompting. He/she is able to explain what strategy was used to read words.
Fluency

BEGINNING

Student is not able to read passage. He/she has more than 5 mistakes.
PROGRESSING

Student struggle to read passage. He/she has 3-4 mistakes.
PROFICIENT

Student is able to read passage with minimal mistakes. 1-2 mistakes.
ADVANCED

Student is able to read passage without mistakes. Student pauses where appropriate.
