Thematic Unit on 5 Senses Rubric 
This rubric will be used after the entire unit is completed. The kindergartners score will be based upon their completion of their final 5 senses book.

Attempts to demonstrates an understanding of what the 5 senses are, but is not grasping the concept.
Fair

Minimal understanding of what the 5 senses are and is starting to show that they understand which body part uses a particular sense.
Good

Understands the 5 senses and is able to recognize which body part on their body uses sight, hearing, touch, taste (etc).
(e.g. I can see with my eyes)
Excellant

Students have a strong understanding of their 5 senses and understands that more than one body part can use one particular sense at the same time.
(E.g I use my tongue to taste things and can feel if it is rough or soft)
Describing

Poor

Description of what the 5 senses are is weak
Fair

Begins to be able to describe what are some the 5 senses and how they help them function in daily life by showing that they use their eyes to see objects/tings.
Good

Description to what the five senses are basic, but still lacks elaboration.
(e.g. I see with my eyes)
Excellant

Students demonstrate their thoughts clearly and are able to fully explain which sense uses a particular body part. (E.g. I use my eyes to see a flower in the garden)
Approach to Drawings

Poor

Displays no strategies to draw which sense belongs to which corresponding body part
Fair

Begins to recognize and identify which body part they use while using one their 5 senses
Good

Shows an understanding by their drawings and recognizes observation descriptors from each of the 5 senses
(E.g. I see blue or I feel rough)
Excellant

Students drawings are well organized and they correspond to using the correct body part on their body.
(E.g. They draw their hands to be able to touch objects in the world)
Organization

Poor

Lacks organization in the entire book
Fair

Displays a disorganized approach to the problem
Good

Work demonstrates some organization and drawings become more clear.
Excellant

Students work is clearly organized and includes detailed drawings on which body part they use for the 5 different senses.
