Clay Mosaic 
Students will create a design for a clay Mosaic. They will draw on a 10"x10" sheet of paper, roll a slab of clay, and trace their design onto the clay slab. Students will cut pieces out, fire, glaze, and assemble their mosaic on a board with grout.

Clay pieces were not cut out carefully, and a lot of the edges are distorted and sharp. Project ended up broken or not fitting together in the end.

A majority of the clay pieces were cut carefully, but some edges are sharp and not smoothed out. Some pieces don't fit together in the final design.

All clay pieces are smooth, and cut neatly. All pieces fit nicely together in the finished mosaic.

The overall mosaic is falling apart in some areas. The grout doesn't completely fill in all the gaps.

The grout was placed neatly on the mosaic and the finished project is in one solid piece with smooth edges throughout.

Pieces weren't fully glazed and the clay is showing through in a lot of areas. The outside edges of the mosaic were also not glazed.

Sculpture was glazed carefully, neatly and appropriately. The overall piece is thoughtfully glazed in a manner that enhances overall unity of piece.

Student finished project late, or turned in an incomplete project. Failed to use class time wisely. Unfocused/talkative/distracted.

Student finished project on time, fully glazed and complete. Made good use of class time, but a little bit more time could have made the project excellent.

Student finished project on time, fully glazed and creatively completed. Made great use of class time.
