Eye - position

The eyes are way too high or low. The spacing between eyes and the side of the face is way too large or small. The eyes is too large or small for face
Getting There
Eyes are either a little too high or low, compared to the mid- line of the face. The space between the eyes is either slightly too large or too small
Mastered
Eyes are above the mid-line of the face. The eyes should be about half way down the face. The space between the eyes is the distance of one eye length and the space from the eye to the side of the face is one eye length.
Eye

The pupil and iris are not in porportion. You can see the whole circle of the iris, and the pupil is not centered.
Getting There
The pupil is not a complete circle or you can see the whole circle. The pupil is slightly offset from center.
Mastered
The iris is a complete circle, but the whole circle is not visible. The pupil is centered in the middle of the iris with highlight accent.
Eye brow / Eye lid

Both the eye brow and the eye lid were not in the proper placement in relationship to the eye.

Either the eye brow or the eye lid were not in the proper placement in relationship to the eye or missing.

Nose

The nose is way too large or small for the face. The nose is very cartoonish. Did not use shading.
Getting There
The base of the nose is slightly above or below the midline between the eyes and the chin. The nose looks cartoonish or is slightly too big or small for the face.
Mastered
The base of the nose is at the midline between the eyes and the chin. The nose is correctly shaded, highlighted and is the width of one eye.
Lips
Emerging / Beginner
The lips are slightly too large or small and has no definition (shading).
Getting There
The lips are slightly too large or small for the face and more definition (shading) needed.
Mastered
The lips are at the base of the mid-line between the nose and the chin. The lips are the width of two eyes. Shading and highlights accent the lips with the top lip darker.
Hair
Emerging / Beginner
The hair needs highlights and a soft and realistic look. Somehow the hair is cartoon like and or stringy.
Getting There
The hair looks slightly off and and somehow not so soft and realistic and natural. Perhaps needing highlights.
Mastered
The hair looks realistic by using soft pencil strokes and highlights to accent several areas.
Shading Value

Getting There
Drawing demonstrates some understanding of value and includes at least two values and hatching.
Mastered
Drawing demonstrates a good understanding of value and includes three or more values from light to dark including several highlights and hatching and cross-hatching techniques.
