History This rubric describes the requirements that students are to meet in order to gain full points for history essay or reaction essay.
	Excellent 10 pts	Good 8 pts	Average 5 pts	Poor 2 pts
Introduction	Excellent Contains a strong thesis that clearly explains the student's opinion and what the paper will be about. Introduces what will be discussed	Good Thesis is present. May not be as strong as one in a 10 paper. OR Does not not clearly preview the paper.	Average Thesis is present but is weak. OR preview is present but weak.	Poor No thesis OR No Preview.
Body Paragraphs	Excellent Main ideas that follow what has been stated in the thesis. Uses numerous, specific examples in order to reinforce main idea.	Good Main ideas that follow what has been stated in the thesis. Uses specific examples but not as many or as strong as in a 10 paper.	Average Main ideas are not as strong as could be. Uses less specific examples.	Poor Main ideas are weak. Examples are few and general.
Conclusion	Excellent Summarizes paper and restates the strong thesis that is present in the introduction and throughout the paper. Leave the reader with a desire to learn more.	Good Restates thesis, but paper is not summarized completely. Ends in a creative but not necessary efficient way.	Average Thesis is not restated. Summary is present but weak.	Poor Thesis is not restated. Summary is not present.
Spelling/grammar	Excellent 1-2 Mistakes	Good 2-5 Mistakes	Average 5-8 Mistakes	Poor More than 8 mistakes.
Citations	Excellent Bibliography and Citations were outstanding in both style and content	Good Bibliography and Citations were generally good with few errors	Average Bibliography and Citations were fair with a lot of errors	Poor There were few or no Bibliography and Citations shown / or incorrect style.
